An excerpt from the FABWORKS website about their new collection:

‘A New Chapter in Sustainable Wool

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword at Fabworks—it’s a passion and a promise. As the textile industry aims for greener manufacturing, Fabworks is proud to be at the forefront of this revolution with its new Heart of Huddersfield 2024: The Eco Herringbone Yorkshire Tweed collection. Each fabric has been designed and crafted using as many eco-conscious processes as possible, from the sourcing of raw materials to adding the final finishing touches and even transportation methods taken into account. Partnering with local mills that prioritise renewable energy, low-impact finishing, and reduced waste, we have ensured that every metre of fabric in the new collection leaves the lightest footprint possible on our planet.

By investing in Heart of Huddersfield fabrics, you are not only embracing exquisite and exclusive wool fabrics, you are supporting a greener, more responsible future for textiles. This collection is a testament to the skill and care that goes into crafting sustainable fabrics without compromising on beauty or quality.’

Eco Credentials

There are many aspects of fabric manufacture to consider when sustainability is at the forefront of the project. Throughout Fabworks’ 130 year history, sustainability has always been a central theme, and in 2024 we are even more committed to this aim. We therefore present a collection of sustainable and eco-friendly wool tweed fabrics.

About: This is a small and refined ensemble of 8 fabrics that together form this year’s Heart of Huddersfield collection. We have hand-picked a selection of colours that we know you like most, all sourced from available surplus wool yarns. Obviously, repurposing surplus yarns will limit the length of each roll of fabric, translating into completely bespoke wool fabrics that are impossible to recreate. This is Heart of Huddersfield.

Weaving: This collection has been woven by local mills (only 8 miles from Fabworks’ premises) that prioritise investment in renewable energy, with delivery of the finished fabric made by electric vehicles.

Finishing: Finishing is unavoidable in textile production and there are a number of processes that need to be applied, in order to turn raw woollen fabric into serviceable, soft, and smooth ready-to-wear tweed. We are happy that The Eco Herringbone Yorkshire Tweed for 2024 uses minimal chemical finishes and no additional dye, yet still produces a premium and beautifully bespoke cloth
